東京ゲームショウのパネルディスカッションで、バンダイナムコゲームズの鵜之澤伸社長は、「（格闘ゲームの）『鉄拳』はゲーム自体は、無料でダウンロードできるようにして、ゲームセンターと同じように１プレー100円というシステムにしても本来はなんの問題もない」と述べた。しかし同時に、「それをやる度胸がない」との本音も漏らしていた。

　レガシーモデルが崩れようとしていることはわかっていても、企業としてそこから飛び出すのは難しい。数十億円を使って開発したゲームで、新しいビジネスモデルを試すのは、失敗したときのダメージが大きすぎる。

　「ビジネスモデルと売上高の構成をいつ変えられるのかという恐怖心はある。間違いなく変わっていくと思うが、開発費をこの程度かけてプレイ時間は何十時間というスタイルから抜け出せていない」と鵜之澤社長はその限界を語っていた。

　サンシャイン牧場と鉄拳シリーズを比較するのは乱暴だが、投資金額の大きさが企業戦略の自由度の差にわかりやすく表れている。高コストのゲームは回収のための博打性がますます増す一方、iPhoneなどのダウンロードコンテンツは、単価と収益性が低すぎて既存企業のサイズを維持できない。
