私たちはよく、あの頃勉強すればよかった、と言います。しかしそれは、かつて若い頃に勉強しなかったことを後悔しているのではないのです。勉強しないことで生まれた余剰資源を割り当てた先で、漉な結果を残せなかったということが、後悔の源泉なのです。

しかし、じゃあ勉強しないで何をしていたかといえば、たとえば音楽を聴いていたとか、恋をして破れたとか、そういうことのはず。ということは勉強ではない何らかの経験をしているわけで、それが今活かせていないことに苛立つのであれば、つまり問題は過去ではなく今日の自分にこそあるわけです。

もちろん私たちは全知全能ではありません。後悔ばっかりとも言えるでしょう。でも過去の自分に責任を帰せるのは、過去の自分が何ら責任を取れない以上、現実逃避のカタルシスなのであります。そういうふうに考える人間なので、四の五の言わずにいまがんばれ、とぼくは言いたいわけです。まず自分にね。
